Very rare unused ticket from the brief public exhibition of the Bayeux Tapestry at the Louvre from 10 November to 15 December 1944. The exhibition was held after the Liberation of Paris (August 1944) and before the tapestry’s return to Bayeux in March 1945.
 
The only other public exhibition of the tapestry outside of Bayeux was held at the Louvre (then called the “Musée Napoléon”) from 6 December 1803 to 18 February 1804. At the time Napoleon Bonapart was contemplating an invasion of England and sought inspiration in the Battle of Hastings.
 
The third ever public exhibition of Bayeux Tapestry outside of Bayeux will take place at the British Museum between 10 September 2026 and 11 July 2027.
