Rare (no U.S. copies) first and only edition of this interesting work of Nuremberg diplomatics, which reproduces the three earliest foundational documents for the Heilig-Geist-Spital, the renowned hospital founded in Nuremberg in 1339.
 
This copy retains its early wrapper of colorful block-printed paper.
 
Between 1424 and 1796, the Heilig-Geist-Spital was also the depository of the crown jewels of the Holy Roman Empire, including the relic Holy Lance. These were displayed once a year on the fourteenth day after Good Friday.
 
Reproduced here, in semi-diplomatic style, are the original 1339 Latin charter, the 1341 German confirmation of its ratification by Nuremberg officials, and the 1241 Latin certification by Louis IV, Holy Roman Emperor.
 
Noted are the documents’ sizes, supports, formats, scripts (including litterae notabiliores), etc. The monogram of notary who signed the charter is reproduced in woodcut.
