Lily, Hyacinth, Rose: Unrecorded oration on Catherine of Alexandria.

A few stains internally. 
 
 
Unrecorded 1645 oration from the Gymnasium of Bologna (University of Bologna) written in praise of St. Catherine of Alexandria as the proctress of Augustinian students. The speech takes the form of a “Floral Garland” of commonplaces (from sacred history and classical antiquity) and botanical knowledge comparing Catherine first to a lily, then to a hyacinth, and finally to a rose.
 
The work was composed by a certain Friar Giuseppe Francesco Tomesani and dedicated to Petronius Veronius, the interim rector of the Theological Faculty.
