Unrecorded 16th-century ‘health’ or ‘epidemic’ passport from Trento. Such ephemeral documents were once ubiquitous, but examples from the 16th century or earlier rarely survive today.

This form was used to certify that travelers leaving Trento for neighboring regions were not carrying contagions. In this case, a certain “Borremeo Pasqua”[?] from Trento to a locale that remains obscure to me (“Gargia”[?]).

At the bottom of the sheet is a line for the relevant official (a certain deputy Tomaso Longo) to date the form. The field for the year is printed as “159—,” which was completed in manuscript with the number “7.”
