[Latin grammar] / [Swedish] / [Johan Carl Höjer]. Latinsk grammatica för begynnare. Stockholm: Tryckt hos Johan Christopher Holmberg, 1798. 8vo [17.2 x 10.9 cm], 35 pp., [1] p. blank verso, with woodcut vignette on title page. Quarter bound in contemporary calf and marbled paper over card. Minor rubbing and edge wear to binding. Contemporary annotations to endpapers and title page, minor toning and spotting.

Very rare (no U.S. copies) first and only edition of this 18th-century Swedish-language Latin grammar “for beginners.” With extreme brevity, the work introduces Latin pronunciation, orthography, case, number, gender, the first through fifth declensions, pronouns, regular conjugations, the irregular verbs esse and ire, participles, adverbs, and prepositions. The final dozen pages address syntax and case usage.

The handbook was written anonymously by Johan Carl Höjer (1753-1830) (see A. L. Bygdén, col. 882).
